OLD HAVANA Preservation Magazine, Sept/Oct 1997
Cuba's capital, Havana, proffers an incredible array of buildings that reflect a variety of venerable architectural styles. Unfortunately, much of it has fallen into disrepair, especially after the collapse of the Soviet Union and the drying up of funds that were directed to island. In 1996 I went to Havana to photograph an article for Preservation Magazine, the primary publication for the National Trust for Historic Preservation. In addition to finding and photographing structures in various states of decay, I also shot the residents of this antiquated city as they went about their daily lives. The end result was a cover story in the Sept/Oct 1997 issue of Preservation. In all I have traveled to Cuba five times. |
