NEPAL TREK National Geographic World, December 2000
In April 2000 I joined a group of teens from New Zealand for a trek into Nepal's Khumbu region, the home of Mount Everest. During the 10-day hike these kids not only soaked in the mountain scenery but they enjoyed the memorable hospitality of the Sherpa people and they spent a day helping to build a roadway in the village of Khumde. The literal high mark of their trek was a 5000-meter ridgetop above the basecamp for Ama Dablam. My assigned coverage of the trek resulted in a feature story in the December 2000 issue of National Geographic World. |
